Niagara Foundation offers a highly competitive unpaid internship program that gives students and recent graduates the unique opportunity to make important professional contributions to our success. The duration of the programme is 12 weeks during which successful applicants need to be fulfilling some daily obligations. From knowledge of writing computer codes to the knowledge of using some computer softwares, the programme has a lot of diverse requirements from applicants. However, these requirements all vary from one programme to the other.

Job Purpose: The purpose of each of the Internships offered by the foundation is discussed below.

Eligibility 

Each of the internships have their own specific requirements however one general requirement is that all applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students and recent graduates from an accredited college or university.

The following are Internships offered by the foundation

  1. Public and Global Affairs Intern

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
  • Must be able to commit to 12 hrs/wk for 12 weeks
  • Have excellent verbal, interpersonal skills with strong writing skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadline
  • Ability to process and protect confidential information
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to respectfully communicate and work with diverse community groups varying in age, religion, denomination, and ethnicity.
  • Pursuing a degree in International Relations, Journalism, Communications, or other related fields
  • Interest in and ability to readily acquire knowledge on international affairs
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment

2. Interfaith Engagement Intern

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
  • Must be able to commit 1 full school Semester
  • Must be able to commit at least 10 hours a week in the office
  • Ability to respectfully communicate and work with diverse community groups varying in age, religion, denomination, and ethnicity
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to process and protect confidential information
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Have excellent verbal, interpersonal skills with strong writing skills (please attach a writing sample with application)
  • Ability to produce weekly blog posts

Desired Skills/Preferences:

  • Pursuing a degree in Theology, Religion, International Relations, Communications, Sociology, or Anthropology.
  • Interest in and ability to readily acquire knowledge on current trends in religious and international affairs
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to bring creative approaches to problem solving

3. Human Resources Intern

Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
  • Must be able to commit at least 12 hours a week for 12 weeks in the office
  • Applicants must have a strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in human resources
  • Strong writing skills are required

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to respectfully communicate and work with diverse community groups varying in age, religion, denomination, and ethnicity
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to process and protect confidential information
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Have excellent verbal, interpersonal skills
  • Excelling organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to think strategically and understand interrelations within an organization
  • Highly proficient on MS Office Suite, particularly in Excel

4. Communications Interns

General Internship Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
  • Must be able to commit 1 full school Semester
  • Must be able to commit at least 12 hours a week for 12 weeks in the office

Required Skills:

  • Excellent writing skill and working knowledge of AP Style and MLA, APA, or Chicago Manual of Style (CMS)
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills (will be calling and interviewing sources)
  • Ability to respectfully communicate and work with diverse community groups varying in age, ethnicity, gender, ideology, religion, and sexual orientation
  • Ability to process and protect confidential information
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment

Desired Skills/Preferences:

  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, English, Communications, International Studies, Political Science or other related field
  • Understanding or knowledge of diverse cultures, current events, international affairs, public policy, and religion
  • Experience working with multiple media formats, i.e. video editing, photography, podcasting, social media
  • An established social media presence on at least one major platform, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram
  • Long-term experience writing either with a school newspaper or a blog

*Note: This internship application requires two writing samples – a one-page AP Style journalistic piece and a five-page research paper/paper segment in one of the aforementioned formats.

5. Multimedia Intern

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
  • Must be able to commit at least 12 hours a week for 12 weeks in the office
  • Ability to respectfully communicate and work with diverse community groups varying in age, religion, denomination, and ethnicity
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to process and protect confidential information
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in HTML and CSS
  • Experience working with multiple media, i.e. video editing, photography, graphic design

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of WordPress
  • Basic web skills
  • Ability to use social media effectively
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to record and edit videos on iMovie
