The Shell Gamechanger is an accelerator programme launched by Shell in 1996 to help companies and individuals with early-stage or unproven technologies go further both in development and in commercialization. However, the initiative only accepts ideas and start-ups related to the energy and its development.
This can be a great opportunity for anyone who has a research or has a novel idea in energy commercialization to get support, funding and counsel from one of the biggest energy companies in the world.
Eligibility:
The initiative evaluates submissions with the following criteria:
- Novelty: Is your technology fundamentally different and unproven?
- Value: Could your technology create substantial new value if it works?
- “Why Shell?”: Is your technology relevant to Shell and the energy future?
- Testing: Can the concept be proven quickly and affordably? Is the right team in place to deliver this?
Applicants need to make sure that their ideas or technologies are novel. They must be original and create new value when implemented or funded through the initiative.
Application:
Application into the programme comes in 7 phases
- Submission: Submit your unproven idea by completing the submission form.
- Screening: A GameChanger member will reach out to validate the potential fit with the programme and may involve identified experts.
- Maturation: The applicant will be invited to join a framing workshop in which they will work together with the initiative to detail out a phased project plan
- Extended Panel: The applicant will have 30 mins to pitch their proposal to a mixed panel, followed by Q&A and ultimately the funding decision.
- Contracting: Companies in the programme are asked to adopt a ‘win-win’ spirit from the start, but now it needs to go on paper.
- Execution: A typical project has 2-3 phases and the execution of the project will last 12-18 months. The results of each phase are discussed at tollgate panels
- Graduation: Once the project has been completed, there will be a close-out panel.
